Biography

Garnet Crow formed in 1999 when songwriters Nakamura Yuri and Nana Azuki teamed up with arranger Furui Hirohito and studio musician Okamoto Hitoshi. The four musicians hit it off immediately and decided to form a band.

Garnet Crow has a unique way of working. Nakamura writes the music for the band, while Azuki writes the lyrics. Nakamura, however, sings Azuki's lyrics, while Furui arranges the songs. Azuki and Furui play keyboards, while Okamoto plays guitar. The band has no regular rhythm section, opting instead to use studio musicians or rhythm machines.

Garnet Crow released a single and an independent mini-album, "First Kaleidoscope" (Kimi no Uchi ni Tsuku made Zutto Hashitte Yuku), before signing with Giza Records. The band then released a few more singles before recording its first album, "First Soundscope" (Mizu no Nai Hareta Sora He).
